We are changing the way ESPS handles medication refill requests

effective February 1, 2006.

Our receptionists, nurses, and physicians are spending ever increasing amounts of time refilling prescriptions for patients. While we are happy to do so, over the past two years this has become a real burden and is interfering with our ability to take care of our office and hospital patients.  On a typical day, we receive between 75 and 100 prescription requests from patients and pharmacies.  On average, we spend about 10 minutes on each prescription request, which is time that can not be spent taking care of your actual medical needs.

As of February 1st, refill requests should be sent directly to your pharmacist who will then contact us for any information needed. You may also send a request with your name, date of birth, medication information and pharmacy, either by FAX at 757-442-6338 or telephone to 442-6600 (choice number 6 on new phone menu).  You may also bring any preprinted paper requests to the office and leave them with our receptionists.  Please do not call your physician or his nurse directly as you have been doing.

This change also means that you are going to have to request refills at least 48 hours BEFORE you run out of medications.  We will not be processing routine refill requests on weekends or holidays.  Our physicians will still authorize prescriptions at anytime for true emergencies.

Finally, we can not refill any prescriptions unless you are a current ESPS patient and have been seen in office or hospital within the last year.
